Five tips to improve your relationship with carriers.
In today’s transportation market, capacity is a sensitive and key concept since volumes keep growing and capacity is becoming increasingly tight.
This means that carriers have more choices on who they want to work with, that’s why today we want to share with you a list of tips to cultivate positive relationships with carriers that help both parties strive in the current market conditions:
Create an efficient dock experience: Shippers who unload efficiently and quickly without depending on driver involvement help carriers avoid poor trailer utilization or excessive trailer inventories.
Provide longer lead-times and a more predictable schedule for tenders: When lead times are short, the chances of meeting the pickup window diminish as capacity options diminish as well.
Be flexible on Pickup Dates and Hours: Carriers become more efficient, and thus more profitable, when they have flexible pickup options. So, if instead of a one-hour window for pickups, there is a three hour-window, the carrier can improve their efficiency.
Put drivers first: Many carriers evaluate shippers by assessing how well they accommodate drivers with desirable facilities and efficient shipping and receiving docks. Carriers prefer to work with shippers that offer clean and welcoming parking, restrooms, and break areas.
Stay up on market conditions and data: Remain aware of transportation market trends to anticipate emerging issues and outline strategies to address them.
